Agent/Company Issues

How California’s Homeowners Insurance Crisis is Affecting Brokers Don’t miss the section on “Brokers.” Can you imagine proposing a $2M deductible on a wildfire claim for a homeowner? Allstate stopped selling HO policies in California in 2022. State Farm, largest CA insurer, recently requested a 30% HO rate increase, a 52% renters increase, and a 36% increase for condo coverage. Is this a foreshadow for what might be coming in the states AmFam insures in??  7/23/2024

Court Hands Down Decision in State Farm Homeowner’s Fire Insurance Claim Case: Has subrogation gone out the window?? Fire at my neighbor’s house catches my house on fire and I can’t subro? Wow! You’ll want to read this article. Suing because the deductible severity was not explained seems stupid when the issue is ‘a subrogation issue.’ Oh, oh! State Farm wouldn’t subro and court let them get by with it. 7/18/24

AmFam Underwriting Loss Worsens to $1.7B in 2023:  Although losses continue to climb, AmFam officials try to assure us that things are OK with the company. Based on what other insurance companies are reporting, escalating losses seem to be the trend. Are we to worry? You decide.  3/19/24
